life of a party, new year's eve: the elements (part 2/4)

LAST WEEK we introduced Life of a Party, a new series that will give readers a fun perspective of parties we host throughout the year. In part one, we gave you a little glimpse into the inspiration we found for our New Year's Eve Pre-Party coming up next week. (In case you missed the post, check it out here!) From florals and makeup to fortune cookies and confetti, we discovered so many beautiful images that helped inspire our party's look and feel.

For part two, we're sharing a few of our favorite party elements that we think are key in making this New Year's Eve a night to remember. (Special thanks to Elizabeth Carrie Photography and Elizabella Flower Farm for collaborating with us on this party!)

1. the decor

OUR PARTY decor will be pretty simple with all eyes on one overflowing floral arrangement. Place yours strategically with the food and drinks, and it will act as a great focal point, directing guests to the refreshments. Make your own, or hire a local florist to create it while you plan.

A NEVER-FAIL host move: creating a signature cocktail for your guests. While champagne is great on it's own, pairing it with gin, grapefruit and mint make for a unique treat that guests will love. This Grapefruit Gin Spritzer can also be served as a punch, so guests can help themselves.

3. the food

ON A NIGHT when so many people have dinner reservations at the best spots in town, it's okay to keep the fare light at your party. Invite guests over at 8, and provide a few sweet & salty snacks for them to enjoy. Cookies, nuts, and candy will do just fine.

GLITTER, sparkle, dresses and suits usually come to mind when you're thinking about NYE. This year, we're going a different route and encouraging our friends wear dressy casual attire with lots of white and pops of vibrant color.

5. the entertainment

THIS YEAR, we want to provide entertainment for our guests while finding a way to capture candid memories from the evening. We're killing two birds with one stone by keeping an instant camera handy. Let your friends start taking snapshots after a few drinks, and you'll have plenty of keepers for the photo album.

SINCE NEW YEAR'S is a time of wishing good luck, we're providing our guest with floral fortunes. These little corsages and boutineers are great favors to greet guests with when they arrive. Our fortunes include some of our favorite song lyrics, but you could also personalize them for each guest with quotes, wisdom and jokes.

7. the playlist

ASIDE FROM the drinks, the playlist might just be the most important element of the party. Ours is packed full of energetic hits, classics, and a few unique songs to make it memorable. One of our current favorites on the list: "It's not Right but it's Okay" by Chvrches.
