Clients may bring in their own alcohol as long as it is served complimentary to guests by a vendor who holds the appropriate liquor licenses.

The Des Moines Building Rooftop provides the following with the cost of rental: 

  • 7 outdoor high-top tables
  • 50 Tan Steel Folding Chairs
  • 8, 6' x 3' folding tables

For an added cost, the venue can offer a range of amenities such as:

  • Greeters
  • On-site Event Management
  • A/V equipment
  • Table linens

The indoor and outdoor rooftop spaces are available year-round, weather permitting.

A deposit of 50% of the total cost is due upfront to reserve the rooftop, along with a signed rental agreement. The second half of the payment is due two weeks prior to the event. 

Clients may choose to hire a caterer or bring in their own food. The Des Moines Building Rooftop offers a list of recommended caterers for renters to utilize.

Renters may host ceremonies in the indoor room or outdoor rooftop deck.

Renters are responsible for removing all trash by 11pm for weekday rentals and 12am for weekend rentals. Renters are also responsible for sweeping the space, mopping any spills, etc. Furniture, decor, and personal items may be removed the morning following the event, between 8am and 9am. 


Costs & Fees*
Off-Season Rental Rates:
(February 1, 2017 – May 31, 2017)

  • $200 for weekdays (Mon – Thurs)
  • $400 for weekend days (Fri – Sun)

High-Season Rental Rates:
(June 1, 2017 – September 30, 2017)*

  • $600 for weekdays (Mon – Thurs)
  • $1,000 for weekend days (Fri – Sun)

Most decor is permitted, providing that it doesn't damage the space and is cleaned up or removed by the stated rental time. Clients will incur additional fees if the venue isn't cleaned properly or if decor items damage the space. For safety purposes, renters are not allowed to hang any decor from the exterior facade or place items on cement pillars (drinks, floral arrangements, etc.).

Discounts are offered for off-season events and to residents of the Des Moines Building. 

Duration of Rental
Weekend rentals (Friday, Saturday & Sundays) are from 10am to 12am, and weekday rentals are from 10am to 11pm. Furniture, decor, and personal items may be removed the following day between 8am and 9am. Depending on scheduling, clients may be able to access the space the day prior to their event to set up. 

Renters are required to have two greeters posted by the front door (first floor) to allow guests access to the building. Depending on availability, the venue may be able to provide professional greeters for $50 per hour if requested.

Renters are required to purchase event insurance, which usually costs about $100.

Outdoor Events
The Des Moines Building Rooftop is ideal for outdoor parties, as the outdoor terrace space can hold 80 people with lovely views of downtown.

Renters are required to hire one off-duty police officer for security at evening events where alcohol is being served. The officer must be present from 9pm until the end of the event.

Renters have access to the venue to set up beginning at 10am. Depending on scheduling, renters may be able to access the space the day prior to their event to set up decor and furniture.
